Und warum waren sie irgendwann nicht mehr dabei?

Das hat Alvin J. Schmidt in "How Christianity changed the World" auf S. 109 gut beschrieben:

"The ancient prejudices against women that Jesus and his early followers rejected began to enter the church in the latter part of the second century. By the third, fourth, and fifth centuries the antifeminine views of the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Judaizers were even more widely incorporated into the church's theology and practice by prominent church fathers. Many of them had studied and unwittingly absorbed some of the teachings the Greco-Roman poets and philosophers as well as the rabbinic oral law, which espoused numerous negative teachings regarding women. Some of them were influenced by the antiwomen prejudices of the Greco-Roman literature, and some by the Judaic oral law taught by the rabis."

Je mehr sich die Kirche als Staatskirche des Reichs konstituierte, desto stärker war sie dem gesellschaftlichen Zeitgeist in Frauenfragen ausgesetzt und absorbierte diese unweigerlich, so dass entgegen den Lehren Jesu Frauen aus den katholischen Ämtern verschwanden.
