Die Frage, wer wen wie oft in einer Partnerschaft schlägt, ist bereits seit über einem Vierteljahrhundert genauestens erforscht. Bereits 1981 veröffentlichten die führenden Sozialforscher auf diesem Gebiet, dass in etwa die Hälfte der Gewalttaten beidseitig und je zu ca. einem Viertel nur vom Mann bzw. nur von der Frau ausgeht.

"Of those couples reporting any violence, 49 per cent were situations of this type, where both were violent. For the year previous to our study, a comparison of the number of couples in which only the husband was violent with those in which only the wife was violent shows the figures to be very close: 27 per cent violent husbands and 24 per cent violent wives. So, as in the case of the violence rates, there is little difference between the husbands and wives in this study."
