In April 2004 over 250 women from 23 countries bicycled over 250 kilometres through Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. In April 2005, Follow The Women will ride again, with more women, over more land. These women cycle to promote and support four main aims:

Mutig, mutig. Durch Städte wie Beirut oder Damaskus würde ich nicht mal mit dem Auto fahren wollen.

-To show solidarity with Arab women and the Middle East region.

Sexismus wird von mir nicht unterstützt. Ein erster Grund, das Velo in eine andere Richtung zu lenken.

-To change the perception of the international community, project the right image about the region, including the region's women, through the international media.

Ist genehmigt. Mal sehen ob auch Frauen zu Wort kommen, die sich für islamische Werte aussprechen.

-To raise support for a move towards peace, justice and greater understanding.

Ist genehmigt. Aber was Feministinnen unter Frieden, Gerechtigkeit und Verständigung verstehen ist mir mittlerweile klar geworden.

-To raise money to set up a counselling centre in Ramallah, Palestine in cooperation with Palestinian Youth Union for young people affected by the conflict

Objectives of Follow The Women

There are 4 main objectives of Follow the Women.

-To provide a platform for women to discuss their daily lives living in a conflict region.

Sie werden sich Sorgen machen um ihre Söhne und Männer, die in ihren Schützengräben ihre Männlichkeitsrituale abhalten.

-To encourage people to come to the region as a safe, desirable and easily accessible destination for foreign visitors.

Ich war mittlerweile vier mal im Nahen Osten. Abgesehen von Palästina und Irak ist keins dieser Länder unsicher. Erreichbar ist diese Region von allen größeren Flughäfen, von Wien, Prag und Amsterdam aus im Direktflug. Visa sind sündhaft teuer, werden für EU-Bürger binnen 24 Stunden ausgestellt.
